sumMErsize: vol. 2

Coke my cola!
We've reached the midpoint of June, which means it's time for another installment of sumMErsize. This time, I've taken a few playlisting liberties and gone perhaps off the deep end with some music choices. For some reason right about this time of year, all I can think about is food... maybe it's because all I do around this time of year is cook. But I think it's more than that. I think it has something to do with the fact that all my favorite bits are in season... plus, there's no better time for a picnic. To mix things up a bit, I've added in some patriotic gems just in time for that blessed day of barbecues and beer and bottle rockets. So cheers to the 4th, cheers to good food and cheers to it all with the people you love (and the one's you're stuck with).

The Perks of Being A Wallflower: Winter Songs

When I was reading Wallflower, it occured to me that I needed to share a little of what it offered. It's superb. When I came upon this passage:

"I had an amazing feeling when I finally held the tape in my hand. I just thought to myself that in the palm of my hand, there was this one tape that had all of htese memories adn feelings and great joy and sadness. Right there in the palm of my hand. And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how many people enjoyed good times with those songs. And have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote on of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote those songs are happy. I hope that they feel it's enough. I really do because they've made me happy. And I'm only one person.

it was as if reading a passage from my mind... except made profoundly clear so that others could understand. Understand what it is that I get out of making playlists. The following is a playlist made from and inspired by the music from the book. In the style of Charlie I hope.

"I hope it's the kind of second side that [you] can listen to whenever [you] drive alone and feel like [you] belong to something whenever [you're] sad. I hope it can be that for [you]"

Enjoy.

Instrumentality.

Instrumentals offer a plethora of possibilities when it comes to the emotional experience. If culminated properly there is the prospect of the picturesque portrayal... perhaps at times too perfect. Even still, the idea of collecting worldess psalms, ones which celebrate and lament life is throughly promising to me. Below is a collection of instrumentals from what I consider the great contemporaries of composers. The 25 track collection covers the epic journey of a single person through a great many tribulative triumphs, to the ultimate conclusion of life... death. I hope you enjoy.
